The Extremely Intelligent Dog Makes Pembroke Welsh Corgi Training Easier
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi originates from Pembrokeshire, Wales. It was here that this breed was developed into the dog we know today. If you are considering bringing this dog into your home, you have probably wondered about Pembroke Welsh Corgi training. Because this dog was bred to herd and help out on the farm, it has a great temperament to be trained and take commands. This dog has a friendly, out going personality that is easy to train. But, like with most dogs, you must be the leader in the group. Do not let the dog lead you.
The owner must lead, meaning literally and implied. This is a dog of great energy and will need daily, long walks. This is when Pembroke Welsh Corgi training will begin. You must literally lead the dog. Do not allow the Pembroke to walk in front of you, he must heel, either beside its owner or behind. But never in front of the human. This way you execute your dominance, and thus gain respect from your little friend. And because they were bred and trained to nip at the heels of cattle to herd them, never allow them to nip at your heels or anyone else.
This dog has a very agreeable personality making the Pembroke Welsh Corgi training some what easier. They placed eleventh in the “World’s Smartest Breeds”. Their intelligence is unremarkable. The Pembroke’s hard working and loyal disposition leads it to a very obedient dog. Respect is the main goal you need to elicit from your Pembroke. Once you have this, most everything else will fall into line. You may want to consider a dog obedience school, if you are new at this and are starting from scratch. Then follow through with the eduction until the dog responds to your verbal commands without hesitation.
If you are bringing home a second dog, or plan to add a second dog to the mix, this can present a different challenge to Pembroke Welsh Corgi training. To bring forth the good behavior from two dogs, you must understand where the dogs are coming from. In a dogs world there is a hierarchy that is innately understood. This system has to be set, in the beginning, by the animals involved. The dominant dog will become the leader, while the more passive dog will assume the follower’s role. There maybe a few scuffles between the dogs before this is all settled. The worst thing an owner can do is try and protect or baby the weaker dog. This just gives him encouragement to challenge the other dog even more. This will only lead to more fighting. While you do need to step in if one is in danger of being hurt, usually these fights do not go that far and the dogs need to settle these on their own.
