Cows were the most common animal that the Pembroke tended. This dog only stands ten to twelve inches tall and weighs from twenty four to thirty pounds.

The ears appear different also, with the Pembroke’s being smaller and closer together, maybe because of the more wedge shaped face.

Due to the fact that the Pembroke was bred to herd other animals, they are a very hardy and obedient breed. They also require an owner that is in charge at all times. If given the correct leadership, you will find your Pembroke to be a very happy, outgoing and loyal family friend. These are very intelligent dogs and are usually easy to train. As they gain weight the middle, or belly, grows in size and weight, placing undue stress on the spine of this long dog (length greater than height). Exercise and diet are a very important aspect of caring for the Pembroken all around wonderful dog.
